Passing a budget

Likely averting a government shutdown, West Virginia lawmakers have passed a budget to end a special session. The GOP-led Legislature approved a budget Tuesday using $98 million from higher taxes on cigarettes, e-cigarettes and other tobacco products. It takes $65 million from state savings to bridge a $270 million gap. The session lasted 17 days and cost taxpayers $595,000.
