State Has New Plan for Opioids

The state has a new plan for how and when opioid medications are prescribed. Governor Earl Ray Tomblin announced yesterday that the state Public Employees Insurance Agency and the Department of Health and Human Resources built the guidelines based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control. Before a doctor writes an opioid based prescription for chronic pain, the patient will be educated on other options, and not make opioids the first option.
