Recycling Center May Get Financial Help
Help could be on the way for Kanawha County’s recycling problems. The Department of Environmental Protection is considering helping the Solid Waste Authority redevelop the recycling program, even seeing it as an emergency need. A previous owner of the Slack Street Recycling Center skipped out on obligations last year, and the building has been torn down. There’s still drop-off recycling at the site, but it has to be hauled off to Raleigh County. The DEP may chip in as much as $500,000, according to the Charleston Gazette-Mail. There’s a Kanawha solid waste authority meeting Tuesday, and an official proposal could come then.
