Man is Sentenced for 2016 Charleston Bar Shooting
A North Carolina man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a deadly shootout at a Charleston bar. The Gazette-Mail reports a judge handed down the maximum prison sentence to 26-year-old Jacques Slade of Gastonia, North Carolina. Last month, Slade pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of 32-year-old Jamaine Sutton at the Boondocks Bar and Grill on May 14, 2016. Slade admitted to firing shots that night, but said he wasn’t aiming for Sutton. Three other people were also wounded. A judge said Slade wasn’t supposed to have a gun when the shooting happened. He also pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Slade received a 15-year sentence for the manslaughter charge and five years for the gun charge.
