Counties Can Decide on Sunday Alcohol Sales

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has approved a push to let West Virginia voters decide, county by county, if local restaurants and other businesses should serve alcohol on Sunday mornings. The proposal signed by Tomblin on Tuesday will let counties hold referendums to move the start of some of their Sunday alcohol sales from 1 p.m. to 10 a.m. A bill that would have made the change statewide without a vote failed in recent years. Restaurants, distilleries and wineries are among the businesses that would be able to sell on-site booze earlier.
