Banks to Merge

United Bankshares, Inc. – based in Charleston – is acquiring Bank of Georgetown in an all-stock deal valued at approximately $269 million. The deal is pending approval by Bank of Georgetown’s shareholders and regulators. United Bankshares says the acquisition will increase its assets to about $13.8 billion. The deal is expected to close mid-2016.
