Christmas Tree is to Blame for Fire
One Charleston family of three escaped early New Year’s Day when their home caught on fire. Responders said a woman and child were forced to jump from the second floor roof at the home on Red Oak St. in Charleston. A smoke alarm went off downstairs and when a man went to check the flames were blocking the stairwell, but he was able to exit the front door. Investigators think a dry Christmas tree started the fire. There were no injuries, but the home was severely damaged.
