Power Outage Caused By Copper Theft

A power outage last week in the Kanawha City area of Charleston was the result of a copper theft. Appalachian Power said the thief cut the equipment at the Chesterfield Substation with the intent to steal copper, and the vandalism led to a fire, and customers experienced a voltage drop. Crews made repairs and power was out for about twenty minutes. The investigation is ongoing.
