Jobless Rate Edges Up
West Virginia’s unemployment rate edged up slightly in June. WorkForce West Virginia says the state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate increased two-tenths of a percentage point last month for a rate of 7.4 percent. That’s more than 2 full percentage points above the national average of 5.3 percent. Total nonfarm employment decreased by 4,500 in June, with the service sector accounting for 3,000 of those jobs.
