Fatal Accident Under Investigation
Charleston police are investigating after a truck hit another vehicle and then went into the Elk River. Charleston police Sgt. Mark Kinder says in a news release that 41-year-old Jason Alexander Leadmon of Clendenin was the driver of a truck that lost control, went over a curb, struck another vehicle and continued into the river. Rescue teams pulled Leadmon from the river, and he later was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Two police officers were treated for hypothermia and released. Kinder says the occupants of the second vehicle were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
