Eliminating State Income Taxes

Efforts to eliminate the state income tax in West Virginia are moving along. A committee met and discussed the possibility, which would replace the income tax with an eight-percent sales tax. There has been concern about its impact on the budget deficit with those opposed pointing out the sales tax would not generate enough revenue to offset the state income tax loss. Most in the Legislature agree that a phased-in approach would be needed if the plan proceeds.
