Blankenship Attorneys File Motions to Outline Evidence at Upcoming Trial
Attorneys for Don Blankenship want evidence about the Upper Big Branch Mine Disaster to be kept out of the jury’s hands. A new court filing insists that the evidence is not relevant to the charges Blankenship is facing, according to the Charleston Gazette-Mail. U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin’s staff and Blankenship’s defense team are filing arguments now as the boundaries for evidence are outlined. The trial is scheduled to start on Oct. 1 in Charleston. Blankenship is a former Massey Energy CEO facing criminal charges related to the Upper Big Branch explosion in 2010.
