Possibility Exists for Alcohol Sales Before Sunday at 1pm
Other states around West Virginia sell alcohol on Sunday for lunch, but West Virginia law makes restaurants wait until 1pm to start selling it. Banning drinks at brunch costs one Charleston restaurant owner about $50,000 per year, according to WCHS TV. Del. Stephen Skinner, D-Jefferson, is trying for the second time to make it legal for restaurants to sell alcohol before 1 p.m. on Sunday, and thinks it would be an economic boost for Charleston. Grocery stores can only sell beer and wine after 1 p.m. on Sunday. Off-premise liquor sales are prohibited all day.
