Winter Was a Warm One
Winter was wetter and warmer than normal in much of West Virginia. The National Weather Service says that from December through February, temperatures averaged 3 to 4 degrees above normal, mostly due to a warm December. By comparison, the winter of 2014-15 was 6 to 7 degrees colder. The weather service says Beckley had its ninth warmest winter on record, averaging 37 degrees, or 3.8 degrees above normal. Charleston had nearly 12 inches of precipitation, which is higher than normal.
