Beckley Police Add Bike Patrols

The Beckley Police Department is rolling out a new set of bike patrols for the first time in 15 years. Police Chief Lonnie Christian thinks the bike patrols ended because people didn’t see the benefits, but this is a positive step to help officers interact with the public. The Beckley Police is department trying to be more proactive instead of reactive. Another benefit is that the bicycles can go down alleyways and other areas that cars usually can’t reach.
