Remembering miners
Members of the Beckley community came together Tuesday to honor the 29 miners who lost their lives in the Upper Big Branch mine explosion on April 5, 2010 with a short ceremony and ringing of the bells. The annual ceremony honors those lost by the laying of a wreath at the uptown Beckley miners memorial on the Raleigh County Courthouse grounds. The Beckley Fire Department Color Guard rang the ceremonial bell 29 times and each miner’s name was read during the ceremony.
