This big boy was found at Fola Mining last week while some guys were working on the Strip Mine. Fola Mining is in Clay County, not too far from the Liberty Bowl Hunting Lodge

Hello Al, I am writing you to inform you that my husband Kevin Wiggins was working there with All Crane Rental at the time that this snake was found. The snake was 8ft-4in long and weighed 97lbs had 21 rattlers and 1 button. He said that this was the biggest rattlesnake that he has ever seen. I don't know where these people come up with this stuff.  The truth is, that
I found this snake while I was searching for mushrooms this spring at Morris
Creek near Montgomery.  I found it in a cave which also happened to be the
home of a den of cougars (mountain lions), that the WV DNR brought in last
year to control the black bear population (you can see the two undercover
DNR agents in the picture).  I'm the one in the middle holding the snake.
The DNR caught me on the way out of the woods and made me put the snake backin the cave.  One of the cougars is taking the picture, which accounts for
the poor quality of the photo.

Al I'LL SEND YOU A PICTURE OF A SNAKE THAT I KILLED ON MANILLA CREEK IN 1996 IT WAS 54'' LONG AND HAD 9 RATTERLES AND 2 BUTTONS FOR REAL, I KILLED IT WITH A 22 RIFLE, ON THE HILL BEHIND THE HOUSE. HONEST.

We supply chemical to Fola Coal and I spoke with them yesterday and they said this snake was not found at Fola, that it was at another mine near Summersville. This came straight from the mine.

87 pounds...8 ft. long...27 rattlers and a button...sold for $17,000!!!

I sent you an e-mail earlier with information passed on by some of my relatives at a family reunion about this snake that my cousin was telling them about. Some of the relatives had the information wrong. I talked to my cousin's brother and he said it was caught at Gilboa, WV which is in Nicholas County. It was caught on High Power Mountain by employees of High Power Energy Company. The snake is 8 feet 4 inches long and weighs 94 pounds. It has 21 rattlers and a button. It sold for $18,000 to a game reserve.  Brenda Mitchell

My cousin Curtis Johnson lives at Summersville and is a boss for Massey Mining Company. I attended a family reunion at Summersville on Father's Day and several relatives said my cousin Curtis was showing this picture at the reunion and said it had been caught on the job at Fola mine. It weighs 97 pounds and is over 6 feet long. It was taken to a game reserve and is on display. My cousin also said a black rattlesnake larger than this one got away from them and is still at Fola.  

It is a fake. I talked to a lady at the mining company and some guys have confessed to faking the picture.


My husband works for CAT and sent this picture to me last week.  I work for a WVU Extension Ag Agent who believes it's a black diamond rattlesnake.  It's uncommon for them to get that big in WV, but in more southern states they can get up to 8 feet long.

I work with pictures a lot I can tell you from looking at this picture in detail that it is not fake the picture is the real thing the colors are not tampered with at all the shadows have details of the back ground that's not something that is easy to do believe me this is a real picture.   

I blew this picture up....and used the photo editing software to see what names were on the shirts. The man on the left, his shirt appears to say "Jimmy". I'm puzzled how the guy in the middle is holding such a big ass snake with stick that small...?!?!?!?!? 

Al I work at Charleston Newspapers and Jamie Tignor saw this photo in the Summersville area store when she was up there this weekend camping. They sold it for $20,000 they caught it alive and it weighs 86 lbs and it had about 26 rattlers.
