Morning Air Show
Ever heard the saying "The dog ate my homework"? Some of us may have actually used that line at one point or another in an attempt to get out of doing our homework in school.
Well, folks, it looks like we got the saying wrong. Dogs apparently don't like homework; but they sure do like tickets to the Masters.
The photo you see to your right would be one of Russ Berkman's four tickets toLooks like the dog enjoyed the ticket / Sports Radio KJR Wednesday's Masters practice round. The Seattle resident hit the jackpot and was all set to enjoy some time golfing and hanging out with a couple of buddies before heading to Augusta to take in the course and the Par-3 Contest.
It sounded like a perfect plan ... until Berkman came home to find his dog, Sierra, had eaten all four of his tickets. I guess his dog didn't appreciate being left out of the trip.
As Berkman told sports radio station KJR in Seattle, he was at a loss for words when he came home to find the strings from the tickets - and only the strings - lying on the floor.
Masters trip cancelled, right? Wrong. Berkman ended up feeding his dog hydrogen peroxide - it's safe for animals to ingest - in an effort to get his dog to puke the tickets back up. The trick worked, leaving Berkman with a pile of puke and ticket pieces.
But the story gets better. Instead of cleaning up the mess, the guy went through the puke, piecing the tickets back together in an attempt to keep to the trip on track. That's what you call dedication.
With the pieces of the tickets and photographic evidence, Berkman made the call to see ifSierra the dog had a taste for tickets Augusta would consider giving him new passes. Thankfully, tournament officials had a sense of humour and made it easy on Berkman, reissuing him four new tickets.
If you take only one thing away from this story, make sure you never leave your Masters tickets in a spot where the family dog has access to them. Doing so could leave you with a real headache ... and lots of puke.
Dream Makers - Helping Make High School Student Prom Dreams Come True
Dream Makers gathers references from school counselors, preachers and word-of-mouth and tries not to turn anyone away, Hill said. "We sit down and talk to girls and their families and ask them about themselves and what makes them think they should be picked. We just help kids in general."
There is no income level requirement, just that they are in need. After all, the cost of a modern prom can be steep and often area girls and their families are tapped out after just the dress. Dream Makers can step in and help with the many other costs of prom.
One thing is for sure -- some of the Dream Maker girls will be going to prom in a donated gown they may otherwise never have been able to afford. Some gowns are worth $500 to $700.
EDMONTON — Alberta’s Wildrose party says it is planning to change the design on its campaign bus after an image of leader Danielle Smith became the subject of some laughs.
Ed Kaiser/Postmedia News
The Wildrose party's new campaign bus.
“We’re getting it adjusted right now since it will be a distraction throughout the campaign,” said Shannon Stubbs, party spokeswoman and candidate in the Alberta riding of Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville. “Nobody really noticed, since we have been focused on providing a solid campaign platform. There were a couple of comments when we were doing the initial draft a long time ago, but the majority of the team didn’t notice or didn’t anticipate it would be an issue.”
The image in question has Smith’s head above the rear wheels, making it look as if the tires are taking the place of her breasts.
“We do think that if this is the absolute worst thing to go wrong in the campaign, then that’s not too bad,” Stubbs said. “We’ve been having a bit of laugh because of the attention it’s been getting. Somebody suggested we submit a picture into Leno or Letterman to get international attention, as well as the national coverage we’ve been getting.”
However, she also suggested that not everyone is amused.
“I did see someone comment that it might be one of the reasons why women are dissuaded from entering politics, and I think there might be a valid point there.”
She said she didn’t know how long it will take to get the bus fixed. She also didn’t know the cost, though it is expected to be several thousand dollars.

On Thursday, President Barack Obama fired back at criticism over rising gas prices, claiming there is “quick fix” to lowering fuel costs.
“There is no such thing as a quick fix when it comes to high gas prices,” he said. “There’s no silver bullet. Anybody who tells you otherwise isn’t really looking for a solution -- they’re trying to ride the political wave of the moment.”
However, the American Petroleum Institute said the president deserves some of the blame for why consumers are paying so much at the pump.
“Gasoline prices are higher today at least in part because government has neglected to pay sufficient attention to the importance of producing more of our own oil and natural gas. Adding supplies to markets is critical to keeping downward pressure on prices. And government policy has prevented and continues to prevent that,” said Eric Milito, API Group Director for Upstream and Industry Operations.
NPR reported yesterday that the price of gasoline at a Chevron station in California was $4.45 per gallon.
The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report says the average price of regular gasoline is $3.83, which is an increase from $3.75 last month. The average price for one gallon of gas has increased almost every month since January 2009 when President Obama took office.
