Street Closures Expected for Monday's Mine Rally

A rally by the United Mine Workers of America is coming up Monday at the Charleston Civic Center, and you can expect heavy traffic and street closures around it. Charleston police have announced more about the logistics, and say the rally starts at 10 a.m. that day, but union members and supporters may start arriving at 9am. At about 11 a.m., Clendenin Street will be closed between Quarrier and Lee streets to begin staging for the march. At about 11:30 a.m., the march will move south on Clendenin Street to Virginia Street, east on Virginia Street to Court Street, north on Court Street to the area between Lee Street and Washington Street. Traffic will be stopped momentarily while during the march to allow the group to cross streets. Court Street, between Lee and Washington streets, will be closed until about 1 p.m.
