Explosives to Bring Down Bridge on Friday

The Dick Henderson Memorial Bridge connecting St. Albans is scheduled to be demolished on Friday. The Department of Transportation says the blast that brings the bridge down will happen right at 10am Friday, and St. Albans Mayor Dick Callaway and several selected members of the community will flip the ceremonial switch. A staging area will be set up at the St. Albans Roadside Park, according to a news release from the state Department of Transportation. Some debris is expected to fall into the Kanawha River, and it will be fished out and removed. The next phase of the demolition will happen at 10am Friday March 8th, and that will bring down the section of the bridge that connects to Nitro.
