Bridge to be Rigged with Explosives, then Demolished

Explosives will be attached to the St. Albans-Nitro Bridge next week, as crews prepare the bridge for demolition. The bridge will come down quickly once the explosives are detonated, but the entire bridge won't come down all at once. The state Dept. of Transportation has given the necessary two weeks notice before the explosions, saying the St. Albans side of the bridge will be detonated at 10 a.m. March 1, and the Nitro side will be taken down at 10 a.m. March 8. There will be a public viewing are set up in both Nitro and St. Albans for those who want to watch the bridge crumble. The entire construction project will take another year.
