Several emergency shelters open now
First the state of emergency declared by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, and then the federal disaster declaration from President Obama. West Virginia is seeing its share of trouble from Superstorm Sandy. Usually homes are safe haven during a snowstorm, but in Nicholas County on Tuesday the roofs on threee homes collapsed from the weight of the snow. West Virginia National Guard troops were called out to help residents get to shelters. All of those folks were okay. In Kanawha County there are several shelters set up, Including Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Sissonville, Salvation Army at Roane and Tennessee Avenue in Charleston, and the Kanawha City Rec Center, all of which will be overnight shelters. The Hansford Center in St. Albans is also open as a shelter.
