New coal mining standards set

Federal officials want to keep coal mining away from a dam in Wayne County. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced Friday that any that any operators that want to bid for leases to mine federal land around East Lynn Lake in Wayne County must keep mines at least 1,585 feet away from the dam. The agency also wants a 200 foot buffer around the lake. It's a popular lake for fishing a boating, and recreational users have been among the advocates to keep the coal industry at bay.
