Doctor surrenders license permanently

55-year old Dr. Anita Dawson of Milton decided to give up her license and permanently retire last week. The board of Osteopathy accepted her resignation, which comes after a 2010 suspension of her license. Federal agents raided Dawson's office, under suspicions of patterns of unethical and unprofessional conduct from 2004 to 2009. Dawson has been charged with aiding and abetting in obtaining controlled substances by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, and subterfuge. According to the Board, Dawson caused or contributed to eight drug overdose deaths, plus a car accident that killed a Barboursville woman and two teenage girls in 2009. Dawson faces up to four years in federal prison. More court dates are pending.
