Al Woody Memorial Union Mission Christmas Food Drive
One of Al’s favorite events every year was our annual Christmas Food Drive benefiting the Union Mission in Charleston. Year after year, Al would do the morning show from grocery store parking lots, in tents, trailers, RV’s, and whatever else was available to raise money and food items to help feed our neighbors around the holidays. After Al’s untimely passing at the beginning of November 2018, the staff at WQBE agreed that one of the best ways to preserve Al’s memory is to rename the food drive in his honor. So this year, we’re proud to present the Al Woody Memorial Christmas Food Drive.
THE FOOD DRIVE
For more than 20 years, our stations have conducted an annual food drive to benefit the Union Mission. While this year’s event may look a little different, the need is greater now than ever before. This year, the Union Mission hopes to feed more than 16,000 people across our area, and we need your help. We’re thankful to those that have helped us every year, and are looking forward to meeting new friends in 2018 who are helping out for the first time! Each year we are reminded that our listeners really are the best part of West Virginia!
HOW YOU CAN HELP
-TUDOR’S BISCUIT WORLD & GINO’S PIZZA LOCATIONS – Beginning December 3, boxes and barrels will be placed in every Tudor’s Biscuit World and Gino’s Pizza location across West Virginia accepting donations of non-perishable food items. Pick up a few items and drop them in the bin at the Tudor’s or Gino’s location nearest you before Friday, December 21st.
– MOBILE COMMAND POSTS – We’ll be set up in TWO mobile command posts this year, making it easier for you to drop off items during the week of the food drive. From December 17 through the 21st, look for the mobile command posts set up in Liberty Square in Putnam County (Teays Valley) and in front of Ashley Furniture at Southridge in Kanawha County. Mobile Command posts will be manned each day between 6am and Noon.
– GO FUND ME – This year, the IVS Hydro Potao Challenge will go online! Contribute as many “bags” of potatoes as you’d like through our station websites. You can find the Go Fund Me links here, at the top of this page, and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
ABOUT THE UNION MISSION
Since 1911, Union Mission has been a ready, active hand of help to the needy of West Virginia. Their mission is “helping hurting people in Jesus’ name,” and as such, they unabashedly share the gospel of Jesus Christ even as we minister to the physical needs of the downtrodden. They have seen God work in amazing ways through various ministries to improve lives and draw people closer to Him. All over our state, the Union Mission has gained a reputation of being there for those who have nowhere to turn.
